Car Alarms: cant reset my car alarm in 97 Exp., flip switch, ford expedition

I have a 1997 Ford Expedition, and changed batteries.  Now I can't get my car alarm to set.  I think it is in valet.  I want it to cherp when I unlock it and want my alarm to work again.  I tried pushing the button when the accessories are turned on, pushing it once, twice, holding it etc.  It won't set.  Help please

Hmmmm,
Make sure you do the procedure correctly.
Might have missed a step:

PUT IGNITION KEY IN IGNITION,
KEY ON TO JUST BEFORE CRANKING THE ENGINE.
PRESS IN AND HOLD VALET SWITCH
UNTIL YOU GET A RESPONCE
FROM THE ALARM.

KEY OFF.

This should toggle the alarm in and out of
valet/override.

If toggle type switch.
KEY ON, FLIP SWITCH, KEY OFF,
START THE CAR.
