Car Alarms: alarm, 2007 ford explorer, impact sensor

Question
we have a 2007 ford explorer and someone broke the glass out and burglarized the vehicle.  why wouldn't the anti-theft system work on the broken glass

Answer
The "factory" alarm only detects perceptible battery drain,
and even then, can't count on it to trigger either
if the thief is smart.

When they broke the windoe, they knew there was no impact
sensor to trigger, and likely unlocked
the door by the switch to make sure it did
not go off when they did opoen the door to get in.

Enhance it this time with a decent car alarm.
