Dodge: 1994 Dodge Spirit, throttle position sensor, dodge spirit

Question
My son has a 1994 Dodge Spirit with 109,000 kms and has recently noticed that when he is driving along and comes to a quick stop, after he presses the accelerator the engine revs fairly high before the transmission engages and car moves.

What may be the problem?

Answer
IS the check engine light on? If so, use the key-on-off-on-off-on method to pull any trouble codes. My guess is the TPS (Throttle position sensor) on the Throttle body isn't sending sufficient readings to the transmission. Also, is there any slippage in the transmission? Does the driver drive it aggressively or abuse it? (i.e. power braking, nuetral dropping etc.) Most likely this problem has already been picked up from the ECU and a code has been stored if it is in fact a TPS or a transmission solenoid. Let me know if you have any further info and which engine it is as well as the transmission. Auto or Manual.
