Car Alarms: 2000 Nissan Altima GLE Alarm, nissan altima, valet mode

Question
I have a Nissan Altima 2000 GLE.  As of a month ago, my FACTORY car alarm goes off randomly.  Often times, I disconnect the battery to stop the alarm.  I've tried re-setting the alarm by unlocking and locking my driver's side door. It is effective only sometimes. What is really scary is when the car alarm goes off (horn honking, loud siren, hazard lights flashing off and on) while I'm driving.  I tried changing the battery to the remote but I believe it simply decreased the amount of times the alarm goes off.  Any advice is well appreciated.  Thanks.

Answer
You are actually dealing with 2 different systems.
1 FACTORY and 1 after market (siren and hazard lights)

The problem here is that the "factory" alarm is also
part of the door lock system. That means there are 2 ways
this is designed to disarm.

1. using the factory key fob transmitter
to unlock/disarm.

2. using the key in the drivers door, turn left all the
way, then right to unlock/disarm.

If the latter suggestion does not work, then the next thing is
get it to the nearest dealership for new key fob
programming.

If it was after market, there is an override
switch that can be used.

(ie; look under the dash area for a button or,
a toggle switch. When you locate it, turn on the
ignition key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE.

This stops the alarm except for the keyless
entry if installed. The next step is to
either remove the alarm or, try to identify,
and or, get new remotes for it.

But once in Valet mode, it will allow the car
to start and operate like there was no alarm at all.)

So, that's the options available at this point.

I hope you can work it out to your benefit, and
it turns out to possibly be ONLY the after market system.

Good luck.
