Car Alarms: 1998 Chevrolet Blazer Alarm System, 1998 chevrolet blazer, chevrolet blazer

Question
QUESTION: We replaced a battery in 1998 Chevrolet Blazer and we can not get the get the car started because the alarm system goes off.  When we turn the key in the ignition, the alarm starts and will not stop until I disconnect the positive from the battery.  We have tried to hold both buttons on the key FOB for 7 seconds to re-set the system (which is what the owners manual says) and nothing happens.  Do you know how to re-set the alarm system so that we can get the car started?

ANSWER: Please be more descriptive if possible.

"GOING OFF?"

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: The siren sounds and their is an LED mounted in the dash that blinks.  I did not notice if the parking lights were flashing or not.  My wife thought that it was a factory system, but it sounds like an aftermarket system.  If it is an aftermarket system, is there any way to deactivate the whole system and be able to start the car?  We replaced the battery in the key FOB yesterday and the key FOB still doesn't control the alarm when it is going off.  Could it be a bad key FOB also?  Thank you.

Answer
Alrighty, not familiar with the system but try this:

You'll need to set off the alarm for a few seconds.
then, look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

At this point. the alarm would have reset.
If this had a starter kill relay installed,
it would now be opened, and the engine would
turn over when tried. This is override/reset.

You would repeat these steps to go back to
user mode but in your case, I'd leave it this
way until you can have a service technician
get under there and remove/replace & repair.
DO NOT leave this system in there or your
headache will get worse.

Let me know what you discover
& if you want to upgrade to a
better, more reliable system.
