Car Alarms: Toyota Rav4 engine wont start, valet mode, toyota rav4

QUESTION: Hi, have a 2007 Rav4 that won't start. Seems to be a system shut off issue. Jump started with the help of my other car battery and worked. My wife said that keys may have been exposed to water. Opened the key housing but there was no water or moisture, closed it back on. The next day disconnected battery, cleaned terminals, reconnected, turned on the ignitions key but it's completely dead. I tried jump start again and waited for 15 minutes to charge the battery but still no luck. Sounds like the anti theft system may have shut down the whole system. Any advice is appreciated.

ANSWER: Tell me this, does the starter try to start with the key in
& forward to crank?,
And does it crank and die?

If it does, then your car does not recognize the
key now and will need reprograming at Toyota to
correct it.

If does NOTHING at all, then you may have an after market
relay inline, on an alarm system that is NOT factory.
and it may have a way to disable it.

QUESTION: Thanks for a quick response! No, it does not crank at all. The panel lights come on, but no power to lock/unlock doors or operate the windows, and no starter sound. Your 2nd answer may be my problem, that is the after market relay. Any way to disable/enable it?

Ok, an installer would place the velet switch in a semi
hidden area. I'd look under the dash area
for a button or, a toggle switch. When you locate it,
turn on the ignition key, press and hold in the
button (little spring loaded micro button, red or
black possibly), until the alarm chirps 1 time.
This should over ride the system, and only the
keyless entry part, if installed, would still be
operating.

The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE

This stops the alarm except for the keyless
entry if installed. Once in Valet mode,
it will allow the car to start and operate
like there was no alarm at all.

The next step is if wanting to remove it,
you contact a local technician to
locate it, and affect neccesary service
for you.

That should solve the troubles.
