Car Alarms: Code-Alarm SureStart LX - wont start, two fast chirps instead?, valet mode, dash area

Question
Hi,

I have a Code-Alarm SureStart LX on my car, and it's been working flawlessly for years, until two days ago.

The security alarm / keyless entry portion of the system still operates in the usual manner, but the remote start piece seems to be having a problem.

When I press the start button on the remote, the car does not chirp once and start, as has been the usual practice.  Instead, it chirps twice rapidly, and does not start.

I've read through the owner's manual, but there's no evidence of what this means.

I've tried it with both my remotes, with the same result, and the other buttons on the remotes work fine...

I think the two chirps must mean the system is trying to tell me something, some sort of error condition, but I can't figure it out.

Wouldn't ya know this happens just as it starts to get cold here in Chicago...  Any ideas?

Thanks much,
Bill

Answer
Should be no problem really.
It appears from your expaination, that the
after market car alarm is in service mode.

Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, press and hold in the valet/overide
button, found under the dash area, usually to the
left of the leg drilled into a hidden away spot,
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes off, and the siren chirps twice.
(Your valet switch might be the toggle (on/off) type.
in this case, key on, flip switch in oposite direction,
key off.)

This should reset the alarm.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to valet mode.

That should do it.
Let me know what happens.
