Car Alarms: Alarm System on Honda Accord 1997 SE, honda accord 1997, valet service

Question
My keyless entry seemed to weaken, I thought it was the battery so I bought a new battery; it made no difference.  To activate the lock or unlock with the electronic key, I could press, see the LED on the key initiate but the door would not lock or unlock without a lot of hesitation.  (Like someone else who posted, my driver's side door sets off the alarm very easily if opened with a standard key.)

It is as if the security system sensor inside the door is not responding.  Today, the alarm system activated, I could not stop it with the key that comes with the valet set that you insert by the gear shift; I had to go through an awkward series of locking and unlocking, the car of course would not start, I called the dealership on my cell phone while the horn was blowing and embarrassing me to death....

...so I am not locking my car tonight.

Any ideas?  I love this car, I bought it new, but very frequently I am having problems with it that it's hard to have time for.  I have this great car with an alarm system, sitting outside unlocked because I don't want the alarm to do what it did today in the parking lot at work.

Any way you can advise me would be helpful.  I am nervous because the service department at the dealership seemed confused, as if they didn't know, and they are certified to service my car.

Thank you very much for any advice you can give me.

Answer
Gotcha, let's put it into valet/service mode,
and try to reset the alarm to default mode.

Look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

At this point. the alarm would have reset.
If this had a starter kill relay installed,
it would now be opened, and the engine would
turn over when tried.

You would repeat these steps to go back to
user mode to see if this was corrected.

Let me know if it works for yours.
