Car Alarms: Checkmate car alarm, car alarm system, safety precaution

Question
I have a checkmate car alarm system in my 2003 Toyota camry LE. Model#JT3KD100-T. The system will arm, but the door lock will not lock. I think is called a passive lock or active lock. Maybe you can tell me what to do.

Answer
Hmmm, well ok first a bit of clarity.

Passive arming means that
once the door last door is closed, the alarm will
wait a pre set time, then initiate the locking of
the doors and arming of the alarm. Some alarms can
be set up to arm the alarm, but for go the locking part
for safety reasons.

Active arming/locking means you MUST press the
lock button after the door is closed or the
system stays unlocked and unarmed.

This is usually the default setting.

I do not know your system, but this would be a feature
setting in the brain box and you obviously will need
settings information/user manual to make the changes
needed to set up the locking part of the system.

It was probably set up as a safety precaution so
that the customer (you) would not inadvertantly
lock the keys in the car. Normal.

To try to locate the manual for yours, either
find the Checkmate website (no link available that I know of)
or my forum may be able to help:
