Car Alarms: jump-starting my Cadillac causes alarm goes off, alarm security system, 1998 cadillac catera

Question
My 1998 Cadillac Catera has a dead battery. When I hook it up to my dodge stratus to charge the battery, the alarm sirens sound off. Is there a way to disable the alarm so that I can charge the battery? Thanks

Answer
Jump starting it may be of no help on this vehicle.

If after market,
you'll need to set off the alarm for a few seconds.
Then, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the valet/over ride button,
usually found under the dash to the left of the
leg area, until the alarm chirps 1 time.

This should over ride the system,
and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emmiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

At this point. the alarm would have reset.
If this had a starter kill relay installed,
it would now be opened, and the engine would
turn over when tried. This is override/reset.

You would repeat these steps to go back to
user mode.
That's after market, best scenerio.

However, this car DOES have GM's PASSKEY III imobilizer
system, and can be a problem if the power is gone.
This would crank and crank, but will not allow
the fuel injectors to ignite. So jumping it is feutal.

It also has a headlight flashing/hoen honking deterent
alarm. On this there are some rules...

Ok, first try this:
Key in the drivers door, turn left to disarm, then right
to unlock and open the door. If no joy,
there is a fix, but that's a bit of a problem here.

Because yours is a "FACTORY" or, OEM
(original Equipment Manufacturer) "alarm/security" system,
then the disabling procedure info for any given
specific vehicle is now deamed to be too sensitive to
publish here (as suggested by ALLEXPERTS administration.!).

So, to comply, as of March,22 08, this service is no longer
part of the volunteer information I can offer for free here at
ALLEXPERTS.com . Specific OEM/FACTORY alarm disarm/disabling
info is now available ONLY at the WIREWERX.

My installation wiring charts provide the proper wire colors,
polarities, and locations to install a keyless entry,
remote start or, car alarm system into any given vehicle,
or if just trying to disarm/disable your factory/OEM system,
there is a link there to get a tutourial on how to do it yourself
for only $3.99.

I hope you can appreciate the legal reasons behind not
providing this info any longer to just anyone who asks
for general consumption. By doing it this way, I'll
get a record of payment and a name/email address as
a stop gap to help prevent any unauthorized disabling of
your system or anyone elses, by a would be car thief!

Please go to the WIREWERX so I can get you the
info you require to fix your situation.

Lastly, it's likely that the backup battery (24 hours) for
the computer would have gone dead too, and the PASSLOCK III
will need to be reprogrammed by GM service department
to get it started.

Hopefully, you can reset on your own first.

Good luck with this issue.
