Car Alarms: Resetting a 2004 Honda Odyssey Alarm, 2004 honda odyssey, honda odyssey

Question
QUESTION: Help!! My 78 year old father opened his Honda Odyssey through an opened window after my mother had locked it.  He tells me that the alarm disabled the starting system and that he doesn't know how to reset it.  He said that the Honda dealer said that they weren't sure what he was talking about when he called them and said that he would have to have it towed some 45 miles to the dealership for them to reset it.  Please tell me what I can do for him to help him reset it.  I am 4 hours away from him and won't be able to get up there anytime soon.  I assured him that the expensive towing shouldn't be necessary and that most car alarms can be reset using the key FOB. I am even wondering if disconnecting the battery would work, and wonder if maybe the system resets itself after so many hours.  Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

ANSWER: Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine.

At this point, the only thing working would
be the keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped that way.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.
You may get 2 chirps, confirming it,
and the lights may flash twice as well.

That should do it.

Let me know if he can work it out.

QUESTION: Thank you so much for your rapid reply.  The problem I am having now is that my father says he can't find a Valet switch under the dash, however he says that he has what they call a "Valet Key" that he says he would use if he needed to give the car to a valet service.  Does this make any sense to you, and if he has a valet key, is it possible he doesn't have a valet switch under the dash?  If he would still have the valet switch, can you give me some possible distinct location of it?  Again, thank you so much for your help!!

Answer
2 different things. The valet key is a way to start and run
the car long enough to get a new key set up.

The "valet" switch is an over ride button or switch
that will put an after market car alarm in to
suspended mode.

Look around under the dash, to the left
leg area perhaps for this switch.
