Car Alarms: remote programming, side kick panel, car alarm systems

i purchased a new remote (with the same FCC i.d. as my old remote) for my 99 civic on eBay, and upon researching and experimenting with the various instructions i found, none work. i have an after market stereo so the "valet button" seems to be out of the question. On several websites i found that there is another valet button beneath the dash and indeed there is a small red spring loaded button beneath my dash on the driver side kick panel that might be a valet button. any ideas??
