Car Alarms: after market alarm--keep or remove, 2008 elantra, dash area

Question
When I bought my 2008 Elantra SE the dealership sold me an after market alarm called the Silencer. They did not tell me about the alarm that came with the car and implied there was no alarm system on the car. OK, my fault for not doing my homework better.

Anyway, I have this Silencer and the thing is a pain. It automatically sets after 15 seconds if the car is stopped. So I can be sitting in the car with the motor off and if I don't use the unlock button first and try to start the car, it won't start and the alarm goes off. or when it's in my garage--I can't open the door unless I go get the transmitter and hit the unlock button. even if I use a key in the door, the alarm with go off.

My question is--should I ask the dealer to remove it? Does anyone see any benefit in my keeping it? would taking it out do anything to the factory alarm?

Thanks for your help.

Answer
Well it does provide some security, but only if
the remotes are available. At this point
makes sense to disable it.

For now, to try to disarm it,
look under the dash area for a button or,
a toggle switch. When you locate it, turn on the
ignition key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE

This stops the alarm from arming again
and the car should operate
like there was no alarm at all.

You can now take some time, locate
the remotes that go with it, or
remove the alarm.

This might require a local technician,
and affect neccesary service for you.

That should solve the troubles.

Let me know what you discover.
