QuestionQUESTION: My headlights randomly come on my '06 Elantra, running the battery down. When I get in the car the blinkers are blinking. When I bought the car I was promised a keyless entry and it was never given to me and now they are saying that is the only thing that will stop the problem. Do you think that is it or something more?

Did they provide remotes?
Did they say they "removed" the alarm/keyless?
If you can tell me a bit more, but from the
sounds of this, there is still an after market alarm
installed, and you will need to put it into over ride.

QUESTION: They did not provide me with remotes and they said the alarm system can not be removed. I thought was odd.
AnswerThey simply lied. Not uncommon at dealerships.
They DID NOT remove the after market alarm,
which by the way is probably a cheapo system
installed at the dealership when the vehicle
arrived by a contractor. It costs them under
75.00, so if they can not sell you the system for
500. or so, they simply keep the remotes
and blow you off. But leave the brain and wiring
in the vehicle.
Fine.
To start, look under the dash area for a button or,
a toggle switch. When you locate it, turn on the
ignition key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE
This stops the alarm except for the keyless
entry if installed. The next step is to
either remove the alarm or, try to identify,
and get new remotes for it. Or the best suggestion
is to remove it and replace it with something better.
Either way, once in Valet mode, it will allow the car
to start and operate like there was no alarm at all.
