Car Alarms: 2006 Grand Prix Car Alarm, pontiac grand prix, alarmtek

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix.  It is equipped with a factory alarm system.  I have made sure that it is armed through the DIC.  After I lock the car the LED on the dash blinks.  The problem is that I cannot get it to go off.  I have tried pulling on the door handles and bouncing the car by pressing down near the shocks.  I was wondering if there is a reason why it is not going off, or if there is a sensitivity setting on factory systems.

ANSWER: Please be more descriptive if possible.

"GOING OFF?"

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: As I said, it is a factory system.  What I should have stated more clearly was that I cannot get it to sound off.  This is to say I try to make the alarm sound after the car is armed and the alarm/honking does not occur.  So I was wondering if there was a reason why this would be occurring, or if there is a sensitivity setting for these types of alarm systems.

ANSWER: The confusion for me comes in when you stated:
"bouncing the car by pressing down near the shocks."

OEM Factory alarms do not have shock/impact sensing.
The only detect the doors or trunk opening without
the remote being used. So please understand I
am trying to assist here.

If the system does not trigger, it's usually due to
what it's "reading". In GM's, it's usually a spike
in the or drop in the current. A door open or dome
light, like when you pull on the door handles.
If you have the type of car that turns on it's
interior lights when you lift on the door handles,
door being locked, or not, would then trigger the
car's horn, any anti theft lights, and possibly
trip the PASSLOCK II fuel inj. immobilizer.

Does this sound like your issues?
or is there a shock sensor, or a siren present?

QUESTION: I was not sure if a factory alarm system had shock sensors or not.  The alarm does not trigger when I try to open the doors either.  The way that I understand the owner's manual is that the only way for this system to be "armed" is when the doors are locked.  So does this mean the only way it will trigger is if the doors are physically broken into?

Answer
Not unusual to here that the factory "alarm" does not trigger.
Try getting in, close the door and then lock the
car with the remote. Now wait 1 min.

Then manually unlock & physically open the door by the handle.
The alarm SHOULD trigger. If not, then the system will need evaluation as to why. GM will need to code read it to explain that.
