Car Alarms: Security System in Honda Civic 2001, honda service center, honda civic 2001

Question
QUESTION: My Honda Civic 2001 security system horn is working when I press PANIC button but not when closing the door with remote or when opening the door without remote. Doors are perfectly opening and closing with remote key. I read on the website and tried to find the toggle switch to reset, but could not locate. I will appreciate, if you can help me fixing this problem.

ANSWER: I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: Sir,
I appreciate your quick response. I believe its a factory alarm system. its has head light flashing, car honking and light in dash flashing. But the light on the dashboard does not worded as SECURITY. It flashed when you turn off the car. But It used to flash earlier.

ANSWER: That's going to be a Honda service issue. It appears that the
alarm part of the system has somehow been disabled.
They will need to reset it at Honda on they're machine
to reset all the codes so that it goes back normal mode.

Sorry, if after market, there may have been a chance to
do it yourself. Not so much with OEM.

Good luck.

QUESTION: Dear Sir,

Thanks for you reply. Today I checked up with my local Honda Service Center and as per them its look like to be a after market security system. Since I am not the first owner of the car, i really don't know much histrory of the car. But the horn along with system used to work pretty good couple of months before. I will appreciate, if you can still help me out.

Answer
Try this:

Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine.

At this point, the only thing working would
be the keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped that way.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.
You may get 2 chirps, confirming it,
and the lights may flash twice as well.

That should do it.
