Car Alarms: Remote Start - 95 corsica, chevy corsica, 1995 chevy corsica

Question
QUESTION: Hi,  I have a 1995 Chevrolet Corsica 2.2L and I recently had an alarm installed which is equipped with Remote Start. It was installed by my brother who is pretty knowledgable with alarms and has past experience with. Does the 1995 Chevy Corsica have any sort of VATS\passlock type of anti-theft system because we can't get the Remote start to function? It attempts to start 3x times, cranking the starter but it won't turn over and start up. Everything seems to be hooked correctly as the Accessories for A\C-HEAT turn on and the Starter kill works but it just wont start. The alarm is manufactured by "SPY alarm systems" Model# LC052

I bought it off ebay and it was all I could afford, poorly written instructions but we made it work, the alarm that is not the R-Start. Any HELP is appreciated.

ANSWER: Hey , I get this one a whole lot
(as you probably have read.)

and of course, & Unfortunately, yes this
vehicle has a the PASSLOCK II key
based engine disabling system, and will require a
GM PLJX bypass module to circunvent it!

A bypass is required to interupt PASSLOCK for
remote start applications. It is done by
grounding the system to allow it to start,
then re establish it for security usage.

This Passlock Bypass Module is designed to provide
a proper coded pulse to open the fuel rail
passlock injector cut off circuit.

The output from an alarm/remote starter
would then shut down the pulse, once it has detected
the engine has engaged, and preserve the integrity
of the passlock system.

That is it's designed purpose.

This is a self learning, resistor sensing
and self adjusting module. Once the VATS/PASSLOCK
wires have been tapped,
you would press the program button to learn,
and it does.

QUESTION: Thanks for the insight but two things, it's a sedan not a truck and I searched all over the net to find out what kind of Anti-theft the vehicle had and came up short handed. Some say it has Anti-theft and others don't(no owners manual)so if you could check and make sure or even give me a link to verify I would appreciate it before I go off buying the Bypass Module, thanks!

ANSWER: Ok, take out the starter kill relay setup,
then try the remote starter again.

Could be the order of the installation.
The starter kill relay would be installed
closer to the ignition key. If the starter wire
output on the remote starter is closer to the
ignition switch, this is incorrect.

Switch the location points so the starter kill
relay assembly is closer to the ignition then
the starter wire output.

That would correct it.

If your key has a chip in it, you do have
the VATS system, if not, you missed it by 1 year.

QUESTION: The KEY is not chipped so I assume no V.A.T.S system present. The 1st replay I got said it was equipped with Passlock II and I want to know where he gathered that information from because it's 1995 Model car. The only thing I should mention is that the car had something called "Electro-Lock" which was a small black box under the steering column wired to a Relay which is basicly STARTER kill when the ChipKey was removed disabling it from starting. He removed this completely as it was just in the way of the alarm install, the Car still operates with Key even though it's wired to the start-kill relay going to the Remote start as long as alarm is disarmed. We inspected the wiring and he(my brother)is certain it's hooked correctly even switched out the relay but not the wire harness. I will have him double check when he has the time though, any other ideas? I will rate ALARMTEK after we check into things more, but for the most part you've been helpful.

Thanks,
David

Answer
GM put it into the Baretta, which is
the same as your car is under the dash for that year.
So it is possible that yours had it, but if not,
I gave you what I would have done in that case.
The wiring procedure for the starter could be wrong.
You might want to contact you seller or the manufacturer
for the support you should be getting on this as well.
It is after all, they're responsibility to help they're
customer install THEY'RE product.

I hope it works out, and a good rating is nice, but I am
a big boy, I can take a bad rating if warranted.
If you find I am right, then good. It was usefull.
No worries there. Just trying to help, and this is
a voluntary service, but I appreciate your need to
get this sorted out.

Hopefully your brother will figure it out.
