Car Alarms: 2001 Honda Accord Alarm going off spontaneously, honda accord ex, dash area

Question
QUESTION: Hello,
I have a 2001 Honda Accord EX.  For the last three days the car alarm (factory installed) has been going off on its own. The horn beeps, the lights flash on and off for two minutes unless I unlock the doors with my key (the remote transmitter has been unsuccessful at stopping the alarm)   Right now the only way to keep it from going off is to leave the car unlocked.  I've tried locking the car a number of different ways (remote transmitter, lock tab, master door lock switch) and the alarm always sets and ends up going off a few hours later without provocation.  I'm in desperate need of help.  Last night the alarm went off at 3am and I had to run outside to turn it off and I left the car unlocked overnight.  Please help!  I called the dealer this morning and they said I would have to bring it in and leave it there for 24 hrs so they could observe it and it would cost a minimum of $110 just for the observation.  I am a student and I really don't have that kind of money.  If I could fix this myself that would be ideal.  I found a post somewhere saying to try and reset the alarm using a valet/overide button under the dash but I can't find it. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

ANSWER: Having some trouble determining the
trouble here by the info presented.

"GOING OFF?" Describe in ,more detail please.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know and I will see
what I can offer.

QUESTION: It's factory.  Horn beeps and the lights go on and off.  I'm not sure about any word flashing in the dash.  It's definitely the horn and NOT a siren.

Answer
Unfortunate.
Sorry to tell you this but if not after market,
and the key in the drivers door, turn left to disarm,
right to unlock does not disable it, then
you will need to visit the local Honda dealer for
resetting. I wish I had something more to offer,
but there is not much you can do on your own here. :>(

I hope it works out for you.
