Car Alarms: Resetting unknown brand alarm, speedy reply, valet service

Question
QUESTION: Car: 2000 Corolla, purchased with alarm (I thought) disabled. Did not receive a remote. I've used car for many years, but recently needed new battery. Upon replacing it alarm set itself disabling ignition. Tried: Disconnected negative terminal, Placed key ign swix to on, and reconnect negative terminal. Car starts. Turn it off remove key, re-insert key, car starts. But when left for 3 min. alarm sets and locks doors. Then when unlocking with key alarm kills the ign swix and goes off. I have also tried pressing what appears to be a red lighted button on the dash within 5 sec with key in ign to on. Doesn't disarm and car still won't start. Any ideas I can try.

ANSWER: Sure, let's put it into valet/service mode.

Try it this way instead...
Look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

This solves the problem for now.

Then if you want to remove it, take it to a local
after market alarm dealer and have it done there.

They may even be able to reset/reprog. the features on
the alarm you have, to allow you to use the system
more comfortably, but of course, your call.

Have a nice afternoon.

QUESTION: Thanks for your speedy reply, I really appreciate it. But, I have looked under the dash for a button or toggle and haven't found it. If it's there the installer hide it really really well.

The dash lite button can be pressed in, but I have tried holding with the key in the on position, and tried pressing it and then insert and turning the key. The car still won't start and the alarm continues to go off. I have discontinued the siren horn so I can stand being around the car, but other than the horn I can't find any other alarm components. Any other ideas before I find shop?

Thanks again,

Paul

Answer
By the description of the LED it sounds like
a Code alarm.

The best thing here is
to write to my Code Alarm technician at
scadss@optonline.net and see if
he can assist you with this issue.

I unfortunately don't know the
system you are working with to advise
you properly on it's functions,
features or trouble shooting
information. Better to check with a tech
that might.

Good luck.
