Car Alarms: 1997 Tracer Alarm, auto locks, mercury tracer

I have a 1997 Mercury Tracer Treo with a factory installed alarm system. On occasion when I go to start the car the alarm is triggered, the auto locks go up and down and then the car will not start. I have read that I need to lock and unlock the drivers side door with the key and this will reset the alarm, but this does not work. I also tried getting a new key, but it happened the next day again. I need to know how to reset the alarm and if possible how to stop it from happening again.

I'd look into the charging system on this one.
It will adversly affect any factory alarm like
this if the voltage is not up to par.

Check the batt. the alternator to start and
repair or replace if nec.
