Car Alarms: 96 towncar alarm, alarmtek, dash area

Question
QUESTION: On this machine opening drivers door with key sets off alarm. Also if you un-lock with remote and do not get in and drive away within about a minute the ignition is disabled and car will not start unless you hit the open door lock switch in the car or the remote again. I had an occurrence of it going off one night during a rainstorm. These occurrences started when the dealership disconnected the battery for some reason which I don't remember. The battery has since been replaced and it still occurs. Help!!!      Thanks Gene

ANSWER: Please tell me what you are experiencing.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take, to help you to fix this
situation you're in quickly.

QUESTION: As far as I know it is a factory alarm system.
flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?
It also has a keypad on the door for opening and when you use that it also sets off the alarm. Thanks again. Gene

Answer
It's an after market system from your description.
Probably dealership installed when
it was purchased originaly.

To simply disarm it, locate and use the
valet/overide switch.

To start, look under the dash area for a button or,
a toggle switch. When you locate it, turn on the
ignition key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE

This stops the alarm except for the keyless
entry if installed. The next step is to
either remove the alarm or, try to identify,
and get new remotes for it.

But once in Valet mode, it will allow the car
to start and operate like there was no alarm at all.

Let me know how it goes.
