Car Alarms: dakota alarm, alarmtek, dash area

Question
I have 98 dodge Dakota and i cant figure out how to reset the alarm. If you remove the battery cable and put it back on the alarm will stop, but if you open the door or turn the key on it will start again. HELP!

Please tell me what you are experiencing.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take, to help you to fix this
situation you're in quickly.
