Car Alarms: gm factory alarm, 2003 malibu, short blasts, alarmtek

Question
QUESTION: The horn stopped beeping when the alarm is set, but the lights still flash and the panic button still works.  I rocked the car pretty good after the alarm was set, and nothing happened.  What is going on?  I am a pretty good electronics man, but still scratching my head!!

ANSWER: Please tell me what you are experiencing.

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take, to help you to fix this
situation you're in quickly.

QUESTION: Thanks for responding so fast.  The back of the remote control reads "GM/LEAR256959**" if that means anything to you.  What it used to do is the parking lights flashed while the car horn gave two short blasts.  Now the parking lights still flash and that is all.....

Answer
The trouble is it's a factory system and my
valet overide fix won't do here.
GM needs to put on the diagnostic code reader
and reset.

Best bet is to contact the service dept.
at your local Chevy dealer and have them
reset the factory alarm back to
pre-trigger mode. Then tutor you on
what to do if it should occur again.

Not alot you can do with it by yourself.

Sorry, if it were aftermarket, valet/overide
using the installed button under the dash area
would have be the solution.

Let me know what they do for you on this.
