Car Alarms: 01 VW Beetle Alarm., alarmtek, dash area

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2001 VW Beetle that I purchased used about 2 years ago. It has given
me nothing but problems since I purchased it. This year alone I have put over
$2,000 into repairs. Now, whenever I go to start the vehicle, the alarm starts
going off. I can't bear to dump any more money into this car... is there a way I
can just disengage the alarm system completely? It's so embarrassing every
time I go to start up the car, and I can't shut the alarm off. Or, is there a trick
to just shut the alarm off after it starts going off? This morning I had a very
difficult time shutting off the alarm. I kept turning the car off, then on, then
off, then on, and nothing would shut the alarm off. Finally, it just stopped.
Any info you can provide is SUPER GREATLY APPRECIATED!

ANSWER: I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take, to help you to fix this
situation you're in quickly.

QUESTION: It's a factory system. It's definitely the horn honking, and from sitting in the
driver's seat and looking at the dash, the hazard lights look like they're blinking
on and off. Not sure about the headlights, if they flash or not. There is no word
"SECURITY" flashing anywhere.... DUDE, THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!
ANSWER: Well, not the greatest news.
This alarm is dependent on the physical
action of locking and unlocking the doors.
That being said, there are only a few options
available. You can't simply "turn it off".

With the key, it's turn left, then right to
enter the car, and disarm the alarm.

Normally, this car has a remote that does this
function. (I own a 99 Passat turbo. same issue!)

If you don't have the OEM remote, you will either need
to go to VDUB and add it to the system, or
add your own keyless entry to do the function remotely.

I suggest the first option
since it's less invasive, and is "spec" for this
vehicle. It also is designed to address the issues
you are now having. Once they added mine, I was good
to go with the OEM factory system.

Let me know which way you decide to approach it.

QUESTION: Well, seeing as how VW cars are built so badly, my key broke - a few times. VW
wanted $364 for a new key. At that point, I just started using the valet key. I do
still have part of the original flip key, and that does still work to unlock the
driver's door. I don't carry it with me though, and just use the valet key to
unlock the car and also to start the engine. I've been using the valet key now for
about a year, and the alarm problem just started happening a little while ago.

Answer
Sorry, If I had something else, I certainly would
have offered it. Just brings us back to
VW. To get any satisfaction out of this,
you are going to have to talk to the part department
and get them to lower the price if possible.

No way around this one.

Sorry.
