Car Alarms: 97 Explorer Sport random alarms, ford explorer sport, alarmtek

Question
QUESTION: My wife drives a 1997 ford explorer sport (all stock equipment) and when left parked, the alarm will suddenly go off by itself at random.  Key in the ignition obviously turns it off as does the fob.  But, we would like to get to the bottom of the problem.  The only thing that is in common with the times it goes of is it's sunny outside.  When the car is locked (via fob) in the garage, it has *never* gone off.  On sunny days, while parked in the sun (and no wind), it can go off several times a day or it may not go off for several days in a row.  It went off the other day when I was 200 yards from the car returning from a walk (ergo-I could obviously see nobody was near it or bothering it) and it went off. Today in the driveway at about 2pm (same thing, nobody around it).  Can you please offer any suggestions on how to make it stop spontaneously going off?  I would like to repair the problem as opposed to disabling the alarm altogether.

Thanks a million.

ANSWER: I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Many veriables on this vehicle &
I Require a bit more imput please.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take, to help you to fix this
situation you're in quickly.

QUESTION: The truck is 100% stock.  Which means factory alarm.  Lights, horn (and don't know about "security" on the dash).  Not an after-market alarm. This is the one that came with the car.
Thanks.

Answer
Ok, Normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
dk. green/purple |-| located in the
driver's kick panel.

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.

Have a good day.
