Car Alarms: 1999 Honda Civic LX - Arming the Alarm, honda civic lx, valet mode

Question
QUESTION: I just purchased Honda remotes to lock and unlock the doors.  But it seems that I may have disarmed the alarm using the valet button.  But spending so much time trying to program the remote to the car that I may have disarmed the alarm and not remember how.
What would I need to do with the valet button to rearm the alarm so when a door is opened without using the remote, the alarm goes off?
Thank you.
ANSWER: Should be no problem really.
It appears from your expaination, that the
car alarm is in service mode.

Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, press and hold in the valet/overide
button, until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes off, and the siren chirps twice.

This should reset the alarm.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to valet mode.

That should do it.

Let me know what happens.

QUESTION: Here's what it does:
it goes - weeeeeeeoh
then, chirp chirp chirp and then the red LED goes solid and stays solid.
Following the process only makes it do the same thing and turn off the red led, but the led doesn't start blinking again signifying that it's been armed.
ANSWER: Not sure what aftermarket system you have
there, but it IS aftermarket.
Alright, this is what I think is going
on....

The alarm seems to be in long tamper mode.
At least we know it's installed correctly
which is actually a good thing here.

Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine.

At this point, the only thing working would
be the keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped that way.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.
You may get 2 chirps, confirming it,
and the lights may flash twice as well.

That should do it.

If you want to remove it at this point,
take it to your neighborhood installer
for this, or buy the wiring chart
(Go to: www.vehiclewires.com)
for the vehicle, and reverse engineer it wire
by wire, until safely removed.

Let me know what happens.

QUESTION: Thanks for all your help.
It is definately stock Honda (I crawled under the panel, got the serial number and part number in order to get the right remote and it's stock honda).
Tampering could be the issue.
With all the dinking around I did (a company not to be disclosed) when I got the wrong remote and spend a good day trying to make it work, who knows what I may have done to the system.
Will continuing to try with the "5 Second Rule" put me further into tamper mode, or will I need to have a complete system reset to get out of tamper mode?

Answer
Ok, Normally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:

The FACTORY ALARM DISARM WIRE IS
YELLOW/BLUE (-) AT GREEN SECURITY PLUG
( ABOVE GAS PEDAL ) .

Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the alarm functions entirely.

Let me know if it solved the issue.
