Car Alarms: 95 Buick Regal 2dr security problem..., buick regal, key cylinder

Question
QUESTION: I took off my door handle by pulling it too hard. the window was opened, so I put my arm though the gap and opened the door using the inside handle. And then I try to start the car but it doesn't start and the security sign is on. Can I disarm the security system? or do I need to replace the door handle?
ANSWER: The security system in your vehicle is known as VATS (Vehicle Anti-Theft System).  It incorporates a chip in the key (a resistor) that when inserted into the ignition cylinder makes contact with 2 points.  These systems are known for having problems with the contacts in the key cylinder.  Typically if this is the first time you have had this problem jiggling the key in the cylinder may allow it to make better contact with the pins.  The dealership can replace this part for you as well but that is typically a $400 - $600 repair.  You could also do a permanent bypass but this would require some work on your part and a small amount of know how on things like how to read a resistor and how to solder.  If you are interested in a permanent bypass solution just post back to this and I will send over a response.

QUESTION: Thank you for your answer, let me try to do a permanent bypass. So could you send me a permanent bypass solution? Thanks again!

Answer
To do a permanent bypass follow the diagram listed at this link:

You will probably have to create an account to download the image but account creation is free.  When you take a look at that picture you can ignore the relay and just hook the resistor across the wires running to the VATS module and be sure to not connect the other end of the cut wire to anything.  To determine the value of the resistor you would measure across the two metal points on the pellet in the key, it will be one of the 15 values listed on that image.
