thank you for your time

Answer
Alright, Permanently bypassing VATS is actually
something done regularly when I do an
after market system in a GM of that age.
The problem is the contacts in the
ignition switch go bad over time.

I have yet to see
one not go bad eventually. Measure the resistance
across the pellet in your key and pick up a resistor
or resistors to match that value, Radio Shack will
have them and hopefully the person behind the counter
knows how they work or can at least read a meter properly.
If you have a local install shop (Circuit City,
Best Buy are OK, but I find the smaller shops to have
much more knowledgeable people in general) the will
probably have a pack of 15 resistors that cover the
entire range of possible VATS values. Soldering this
resistor in across the VATS wires (leaving the wires
that run to the key switch disconnected) will allow
the vehicle to start.

If this is something you are capable of doing fine.
If not, please strongly consider taking this
car to the dealer.
