Car Alarms: alarm removeal, gm vehicle, starter wire

Question
I have a 79 monte carlo that came with a alarm the kills the starting system if the alarm goes off.My key pad broke so now I can't start it cause of the alarm. How do I remove it so I can drive.

Answer
Take a look at your ignition harness, the harness that runs down from the keyswitch.  In that harness you will find a wire that has been cut and run to a relay (normally yellow wire in that era GM vehicle).  Reconnect the starter wire without the relay and you should be fine.  If you have the time, I would suggest removing all the remaining components of the immobilizer as well, take your time, and be sure to reconnect any factory wiring that was cut, and make sure you do not leave any wires exposed to where they could short out.  I recommend soldering all connections, but crimp connectors should hold up just fine so long as they are used properly.
