Car Alarms: Faulty Clifford Concept 50X, clifford alarm, valet mode

Question
Hi
When I put in the key to start the car (BMW 3.18i) the immobilser does not light up the dash board.  When a vehicle battery is connected the clifford alarm goes off continuously for about a minute or so and then stops.  Car won't start due to this problem.  I've changed the remote battery on the remote control alarm but it doesn't seem to have made much difference.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Answer
The Concept 50 is not a system I am familiar with, but the Clifford systems I used to deal with had what they referred to as a plain view valet switch.  This switch required a specific sequence of pushes to put the system into valet mode.  This sequence was owner selectable and there was no way to over ride it if the owner forgot the sequence.  The only way to have it reset was to remove the system and send it back to Clifford, where they would reset the software to factory settings.

You may be able to disable the system by removing the fuses that supply the brain (if the system was installed with the relays in a normally open configuration).  Take down the driver's side dash and trace back the wires to the Clifford Brain.  Inline there should be some fuses and removing those fuses should allow you to start the vehicle.  If removing the fuses does not allow you to start the vehicle, then you will have to reconnect any of the wires that were cut to install the system as well.

If you had the system installed at a local shop this should be covered under the shop's warranty.
