Cadillac: Changing gears........, cadillac sedan deville, battery cable

Question
I have a 1996 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. I can start my car easy, but when I attempt to change gears, I get no response. It just stays in park, I can't go into reverse of drive, etc. I disconnected the neg. battery cable to reset the computer, but that didn't help either. Thanks in advance for your help.

The problem is most likely a fault of the SHIFT INTERLOCK SOLENOID. However there are simple test procedures that you can do to test and find your fault.
