Car Alarms: 98 Ranger, stock security alarm, auto locks, dash area

Question
Horn & flashing parking lights. I have been unable to determine a "pattern". It can go off a minute after being locked or a minute after being turned off without being locked. It has gone off in the garage in the middle of the night with the doors locked & unlocked. It is an XLT with key fob/auto locks. Thanks.

-----Question-----
My 98 Ranger stock alarm is continually going off on its own. This happens in various scenarios - doors locked, un-locked, sitting in garage, office parking lot, etc. It has become such a nuisance that I would just like to disarm the system. Can this be done and everything else (door locks, horn, starter, etc) work?
-----Answer-----
Dwayne. Please tell me what you are
experincing when the "stock" alarm is set off.

Horn and headlights or
siren and flashing parking lights?

Answer
The parking lights are flashing not the headlights?
Hmmm, This sounds like an aftermarket system
using the horn instead of a siren.

Let's try to reset it.

Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, locate, press and hold in the
valet/overide button, found under the
dash area, (push button, spring loaded)
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid,
and the siren chirps once.

(Your valet switch might be the toggle
(on/off) type. in this case, key on,
flip switch in opposite direction,
then turn the key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start the engine.

At this point, the only thing working would
be the keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped that way.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.
You may get 2 chirps, confirming it,
and the lights may flash twice as well.

That should do it.

If however it is indeed the OEM system,
you can disable this by locating the
green/purple wire in the drivers side
kick panel, splicing into it, then putting
that wire to a solid chassis ground.

That takes out the OEM system for good.

I hope this makes sense and you can solve the issues.
