Car Alarms: car alarm chirp, google search, car alarm

Question
thank you for volunteering, I have been a volunteer on this  site for 4 years
myself.
Question:    Is there a way to keep  a car alarm engaged, but silence the horn
chirp when you click to open and close the car door. my neighbor has a
honda and he parks it right under my bedroom window adn when he leaves
or comes home at 3 am, I get a lovely blast of his horn.
he used to be a mechanic so I think he could disconnect this.  Do all cars
have this disengage feature?  Al you hear now a days is horns going off as
people unlock their cars. It ought to be illeagal

Answer
It really depends on the system that is installed.  If it is an aftermarket system it may be as simple as pushing one button before another to perform it's function silently.  Most aftermarket systems also offer an option to turn off chirp confirmations all together, while still retaining the siren/horn if the alarm is triggered.

If it is a factory installed system, it may have the option of turning that feature off listed in the owner's manual.  If you can find out a little more information on the system a simple google search may even provide the answer you need.

All in all though the owner of the vehicle would have to be willing to make the changes, and I find that most people want the horn confirmation (even though I personally find it annoying).

Good Luck!
