Car Alarms: Resetting car alarm for 98 Accord EX, honda accord ex, safety lockout

Question
I recently repaced the battery in my keyless remote (factory installed) for a 98 Honda Accord EX . Since then, when I lock the car with the remote or by holding in the driver's door handle and pushing the lock button, I have to unlock it with the remote. If I try to place a key in the door to unlock it, it sets off the alarm. This never used to happen.(The alarm does not go off if I have key locked the door).I have read you talking about valet buttons and reset buttons under the dash but cannot find anything in my car. Any ideas how to set reset it so I can unlock this with a key again? We only have one remote and sometimes must open the car with a key, but usually lock it from the inside.

Answer
Bad news here Patty,
This car does not have a factory installed alarm.
Someone may have installed it at the dealership,
but that's not the issue. The accord has a safety lockout
device  in the drivers door switch, that keeps anyone
from locking the keys in the ignition. But in this case, it seems
the keyless/alarm and the use of the key conflict.

Best idea here in my mind is always use the remote
and if this was installed correctly, the doors would
lock automatically when the ignition key was inserted
and turned to start the car.

If yours does not, then there is a problem with the alarm. If it does however, use this method only, and diregard
the use of the inside buttons, or opening the door with the key.

If the trouble is the alarm, that's easilly fixed by
replacing it with a system that does what you want it to.

Let me know what you discover.
