Car Alarms: malfunction?, prestige alarm, prevention system

Question
hi,
i have a prestige alarm on my 01 civic , and a couple days ago my locks started to work incorrectly. everytime i press the lock button on my remote, my alarm would turn on but it wont lock my doors correctly. When i press the lock button, the door lock goes down and then comes back up. And when i press the unlock button it just turns off the alarm but doesnt do anything with my door locks. Using the the car door lock button(not the remote) in the car gives the same results. I push up to unlock the doors and it doesnt do anything, but when i press down to lock the door, it locks my door then, comes up and unlocks again.

Answer
I think the 01 Civic has a "lock out" prevention system.  If I remember correctly this vehicle will not allow you to lock the doors if the driver's door is open.  It will lock, then immediately unlock to prevent locking the keys in the car.  However I do not know how the vehicle accomplishes this; whether it uses the same door pins that activate the dome light or if there is another method of letting the vehicle know the door is open.

Let me know if this was any help.
