Car Alarms: Program Prestige Auto Alarm, alarm locks, prestige auto

Question
Hello,

I bought a used Honda Accord with a Prestige Auto Alarm (I believe model no. is APS92BT2CL).  Of course, I got no manual for the alarm (or for the car, but that's another story!) I am assuming it was installed separately from Honda dealer.

I would like to stop it from automatically engaging thirty seconds after engine is off and the door is shut.  My preference would be to engage it manually.

I have a two button remote which only affects alarm (locks are manual). Only left button (the one with one slash mark, other has two) seems to engage and disengage alarm.

Doy you have any idea how I can reprogram it or where I might find a manual to show me?  I looked under dash and couldn't figure out where the car alarm connections were.

Thanks so much!!

Janis

Answer
Hmmm, the trouble here is the unit you have there
would need to be one that gives you the option of
active or, passive arming. I do not believe you
could make the change over with that unit, but
I could be wrong.

Many of the 2 button units are set up at the dealer
to cover the end users basic needs. This means
basic alarms and keyless units too. Your's I believe
comes under this catagory.

If it can be toggled from passive (yours) to
active mode so you have to press the
lock / unlock buttons, it would have to be removed
from under the dash, powered down, there would be
a switch INSIDE the brain box, then re-power it
to effect the change.

I know it's a pain, but that is what would need
to be done. Seems that the system does what it's
set up to do now, so I don't suggest replacing it
but, see if you can find a local shop that does
install Prestige/Audiovox for this change over.

Should only be a 25. service visit.

Good luck with it.
