My 2001 Alfa Romeo 156 selespeed veloce (UK version) had a flat battery and the remote on the key fob wouldn't work to disable the alarm/lock. when i opened the door with the key, the alarm sounded. i relocked and reopened the door and the alarm stopped. i then changed the battery but the car still wouldn't start. the garage eventually found a fault on the starter motor wiring and reparied it. however although the remote locking now works they didn't repair the alarm and want to charge me extra for it which i can't afford. They told me the switch for the lock and alarm is the same but after that the wiring splits and the alarm may have "been locked out". i have a basic knowledge of electrics and a multi meter. i wanted some advice on how to check it out further and attempt a repair myself. many thanks, michael.

I don't have a good answer for this one. I would need to determine if it was a factory alarm, or aftermarket.

That being said, I would also need to be there to inspect it, and to go over all connections. If it is indeed an aftermarket system, which is it? And what caused the problem?

It's most difficult to advise about it. Can you tell me
what system you have in there? If factory, not alot I can do to help, but if it's aftermarket, there might be
soemthing I could suggest.

Let me know.

It's factory fitted i'm afraid. As far as what caused it i have no more detail than already stated, it stopped working after going off when i opened the door with the key having a flat battery.
i'm willing to have a go myself, can you point me in the direction of any good manuals on this? I looked at the Haynes series as they hav helped me tons with previous cars but they don't do a modern Alfa manual. thanks for trying though!
Michael

Answer
I wish I had a direction for you to go in.
Write to a friend of mine nearer to you who has
more experience with these vehicles then I do.

powermyster@hotmail.com

He is online now. Tell him I sent you (ALARMTEK)
and see if he can shed more light on it.

Good luck.
