Car Alarms: Car Alarm not working, hyundai elantra gls, power door locks

Question
I am sorry to say this suggestion did not work. I did touch a wire behind the valet switch, and when I did, the car started. The panic alarm siren works (I tested it). The alarm sets and unsets, but the light still won't go out and there is no chirp signal. Is this going to drain my battery? When I turn on the ignition switch full to start the engine, then the light goes out. Sorry to be a bother, but you don't know how upset I am at this moment-------------------------

I am not sure about your answer. In the first section, you say within 5 seconds, flip the switch in the opposite direction (key off)-- is that the valet switch or the ignition switch? I am sorry, but I didn't understand. Also, I failed to mention that I do not have power door locks or windows, there are 4 buttons on the remote: 1. alarm on 2. alarm off 3. remote start 4. panic/emergency

Question -
I have a 1999 Hyundai Elantra GLS with an after-market Viper alarm installed. My installer since then went out of business. The alarm has a remote starter as well and worked fine until this morning. The remote starter worked this morning when I pressed the remote button, but when I went to disarm the alarm to get in the car, the lights flashed as usual but I didn't hear the usual chirp that I generally hear. I tried again by arming the alarm, and the same thing, lights flash but no chirp or siren. Also, the little indicator red light mounted on my steering column stays on constantly instead of flashing when the alarm is set nor does it turn off when the alarm is disarmed or the car is started. Like I said, it worked OK when I got home from work last night and was flashing as usual when I set it (I always check to see if the light comes on and flashes); now no chirps and the indicator light stays on constantly. Will this drain my battery? I tried the valet switch ( a toggle switch under my dash)to see if my knee might have bumped it, but it was in its usual position. The alarm and car are both 6 yrs old today so as luck would have it, something was bound to happen! I appreciate any help you can give me.
Answer -
I think you missed a step here.
It sounds like Valet.

Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, flip switch in opposite direction,
key off.)

This should reset the alarm, and reset
the grounded relay on the starter wire,
allowing you to start it. At this point,
the only thing working would be
keyless entry from the alarm,
if it came equipped.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.

That should do it.
If you want to remove it at this point,
take it to your neighborhood installer
for this, or buy the wiring chart (www.wirewerx.com)
for the vehicle, and reverse engineer it wire
by wire, until safely removed.

If it does not work out this way,
you will have to replace the system
with one you know how to operate
and what to expect. Don't want to
get stuck in another bad situation.

Let me know what happens.

It's ignition key on forward all the way,
just before cranking. Once done, flip the
valet switch, in the other direction, then turn off
the ignition. The red light in the dash
should have gone out. That's it.
If this does not work, there may be another type
of vealet, a push button perhaps.

Tell me what you find.

A.

Answer
I do sympathize with your trouble. I wish I had
better news, but short of having the Valet
switch working, you will need to pull the alarm.
Locate the alarm up under the dash area,
and unplug it.

I realize this is not the best news, but in reality,
it is the only logical way to get this issue
under control. If the valet switch is broken,
then this is the next course of action.

Keep in touch.
