Car Alarms: Surprised by my F-150 when it alarmed., ford f 150, dash area

Question
I purchased a 1997 Ford F-150 used back in 1999.  Just recently, we had freezing weather and I went out to start the truck to let it run for a while.  When I opened the truck a tried to start it I was surprised to find out that the truck was equipped with an alarm.  Previous to this I had no idea that the truck had an alarm.  I had to pull fuses to stop the siren and honking.  There is a sticker in the window of the truck that says the truck was armed but I have always thought that it was "fake".  It says that it is armed with the Pursuit Protector.  My questions are:  Is this a factory alarm?  Can I get remotes for it?  If not where can I disable it?  It is frustrating not being able to drive my truck because I don't know how to disable an alarm that I never knew I had.
Thank you so much for your time.

Answer
Not sure on the name, but Pursuit is made by
audiovox, and might have remotes avaialable.
Try www.remotesunlimited.com  to see if
you can identify it. If not, you might
just need to upgrade to something better.

Ok, try this.
Put the key in the ignition, and turn forward
all the way just before cranking. Then within
5 seconds, press and hold in the valet/overide
button, found under the dash area,
until the installed LED (the blinking light)
in your dash area goes on solid, and the siren chirps once.
(Your valet switch might be the toggle (on/off) type.
in this case, key on, flip switch in opposite direction,
key off.)

This should reset the alarm.

Just Repeat these steps to place it
back to usable armed mode.

That should do it.
If you want to remove it at this point,
take it to your neighborhood installer
for this, or buy the wiring chart for
the vehicle, and reverse engineer it wire
by wire, until it's safely removed.

If it does not work out this way, you will have
to replace the system with one you know how
to operate and what to expect.

Let me know what happens.
