Car Alarms: 93 Acura Vigor alarm, acura vigor, acura dealer

Question
My son's truck was broken into and his alarm remote for my daughter-in-law's 93 Acura Vigor was taken. Is there a way to re-program the car alarm so the remote that the thief took will no longer work?.They are afraid the thief will return for the car.

Answer
Yes but the rub is that it's an old system
and if it says ACURA on the remote, then you more
then likely are SOL. The remote(s) would
need to replaced, then reprogramed at an
Acura dealer if it's the OEM keyless/security
that you have there. That would delete
the old remote and would solve the problem.

Try pricing that out at your local dealer, then
see if it's a viable idea.
(you are probably looking at 100.00+ to do this
if it is in fact the OEM system. Could get
pricey.

If not, my suggestion is to immediately
install an aftermarket alarm system.
This car is way too easy to rip off.
For less then 60 bucks, you can solve this problem
and have a new security system with much better
security features then the OEM Vigor system.

That's the best I can offer here,
No real sunshine, but at least there's a
glimmer.

Let me know, and I'll put you into a
decent replacement system right away.

Oh, by the way, if we are talking about and
aftermarket alarm/keyless system,
(it would have a siren and flash the parking
lights, not the headlights, and would also
have a knock sensor, valet overide switch,
and in dash status LED) then the transmitters
would be likely available for replacement.
(not cheap mind you) but available, and you can
shut out the one you lost. Most aftermarket
alarms have memory allocation of up to 4 remotes
only. Like filling a glass, you can just
reprog. the new remotes which would delete
the one he has. Either way,
let me know what you find out.
