Car Alarms: Remote Start Installation /Pwr door locks, dodge durango, door switches

Question
Thanks for the quick response.
It sounds like I may have burned up the the resistors. The relay seems to pick up but nothing happens. Were are the resistors located and can I change them my self?     Thanks again, Bill

P.S. I just purchased your charts on line. I hope they help.

Question -
I installed an after market remote starter unit in my 2002 dodge durango. Engine start works fine but I can not get the remote door lock/unlock to work. I must have shorted something out because the factory remote and electrical door switches will not work on the door locks now. I only have key access.       Help, Bill
Answer -
Yeah, tough locks. They are negative locks using
relays, and a single wire and using
2 resistors at specified tollerances. If
done any other way, you can do serious damage
to the car's locking system. Start by
checking the heavier fusable links in the hood
fuse box. Replace the one you burnt, then
I stongly suggest you get the wiring chart
and the info needed, including relays, so this
is done correctly.

I sell this info at www.WIREWERX.com and
it will correct the trouble, after you get
the locks working of course.

Good luck.

Answer
No,  here's the thing, you have to go to the radio
shack and get resistors that come within
5% tollerance of the wattage (on the chart I sent),
or they will not work. It's a single wire chrsyler
door lock, simular to the caravan's in nature.
See the caravan relay set up at www.relayhelp.com .

The problem comes in when you can not find the
EXACT tellerance levels for the resistors.
This will happen since the shack probably
does not have the ones you need, exactly.

You will likely have to get 2 resistors
that can be put end to end, that come to the
level needed. I know. Stupid system right?

(Don't shoot the messenger here! Blame Dodge
for they're silly "cost cutting" door lock
system!) I just report the fixes as we can
find them and try to help. Dodge keeps making
it harder for the aftermarket, but we do figure
it out eventually.

Sometimes it takes a bit more to do it however.

Good luck on it.
