Car Alarms: Ungo alarms.., door latch, running around in circles

Question
Hey thanks a bunch for the quick reply.  Sorry to hammer you with questions here, but this alarm hunt has had me running around in circles...i'm an engine and audio guy so this is new territory.  So with something like that scytek, how would i go about getting the window control modules and stuff like that?  See i'm not even sure what i would need to do the install, and I'm pretty sure i'd like to have it done professionaly just for the time it would take me to work through this on my own.  Also i was looking into doing some extras like multiple horns and underdash/trunk peizos and door latch sensors as well as trunk and hood lock pins and possibly a remote trunk release.  Would an alarm like the scytek have enough outputs to handle all of that or am i going to have to go with something bigger?  I'd still also like to have the 2-way paging if i can.

At first I was looking at just doing everything thru the dealer but I think it would be a much better learning (and money-saving) experience for me if I could buy all the equipment myself and have them install it.  Again I really appreciate all the info and the help you've given me with this stuff.

Got a few questions for you.  I'm lookin to put an alarm system in my car (1994 Honda Civic EX) and the local install shop (Audio Northwest in Olympia, WA) that I'm working with has decided to start carrying ungo alarms again, now that they have become DEI products. They said they've been happy with the new releases but I've noticed that a lot of people still have a dislike for these systems.  With that I'd like to know what you would recommend for a higher end alarm system with the full features (window rollup, remote start, starter kill, etc.) 2-way paging isn't crucial but it'd be kind of nice if i'm going with a higher end system. I've also noticed that a lot of people are buying the rollup modules, relays and such separately on ebay...are the prices really much better than having the install shop get that stuff?.

Another question is, have you had any experience with ultrastart alarms and if so was it good or bad?  I've read some of the stuff you had to say about most alarms being pretty much identical, but with price not being a factor I'd like to put up a little more money and spring for something that I know I will be happy with.  At the same time it would be nice to have something that would set my car apart from every other DEI system out there.  I'd be a huge favor if you could get me some info here...unfortunately I haven't been able to find many resources for car security on the net.  I appreciate it,

Chris

Well if you have been reading my site, I am not
a big fan of DEI's. Just not the best alarm company out there. And they're end user attitude still stinks.
So if you want to go that way, don't say I did not
get you a heads up. Maybe in a few years, they're
product line will get better and so will the support
services.

I do alot of civics, and sell Ultrastart here as
well. The engineering is different with Ultrastart.
Some like them some don't, but it is not my first
choice here for the 94 civic as far as range and
overall performance. 95% of the remote starter/alarm/
paging/keyless combos we install in my shop, is
the SCYTEK 5000 rsw (see www.pagingalarm.com)
for best range and best product service and
availablility. I have had less the 2%
call backs for problems on these in 2 years time,
and in my book, that's the whole ball game.

Happy customers is the goal here. Window modules are
ok, not too expensive and will incorporate nicely,
but yes, you do have to pay the dealer markup if
buying from the installer. That means you need
to negotiate with him on that. But again, it's
all a matter of where you buy.

Bottom line is go with what's good, not what's marketed
well. DEI is not the best choice here for the money,
and UNGO is really kinda sub standard stuff in my
opinion so I don't have a lot of great things to say
about it. Ask yourself why Ungo and a handfull of
others (autopage/avital/clifford/code alarm etc...)
sold out? Could it be that they were just not up to par
in this business, and were bought out to create
a monopoly? Hmmmmm.....

Now all you get is the typical overpriced DEI model with
an UNGObox LABEL. That should not give you a warm fuzzy
since you are planning on putting it in YOUR car.

Anyway, to quote Dennis Miller "that's just my
opinion, I could be wrong." (but I am not LOL)

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Have a good evening.

Answer
The Scytek 5000 rsw is all you would in a
control unit with 2 way paging and you get
2 LCD pagers with it, where everyone else
gives only 1 LCD and 1 standard remote,
and 3 extra channels for the "toys".
A trunk release kit is 25.00, window roll up
is 30. And Pizzos are 12.00ea. The horns
are subjective to the size and decible range
you want, so this veriable is something
you need to shop for. But if you are looking
a good deal, let me see if I can make that
happen here for you:

1 SCYTEK 5000 RSW.....169.95--(AUTO TRANS.
ADD 25.00 FOR MANUAL TRANS MODEL 5000 RSM)
1 WINDOW ROLL UP MODULE....30.
1 TRUNK RELEASE KIT........25.00
RELAY AND SOCKET FOR STARTER KILL...8.00
sub total is 239.95

And you can do 90% of this without any
assistance. I would take it to the tech
for the addition of the trunk pop kit and the
window mod. The rest I can support you and
help install online.

The Civic is a cakewalk for this application.
Very easy access to all areas and lends
very well to aftermarket equipment. If you
think you are ready, click (copy n paste)
the following link, or if you have more
needed, tell me and I will send you a
modified paylink for all desired.

I will watch for the order, but if you go another way,
ask your tech what his rates are for this one,
and see if you can negotiate a bit to bring down
the labor on it. He will probably NOT want to install
something he does not sell, so the rate for labor
might be higher then you wanted.

Luck with it
