Car Alarms: Hawk Alarm reprogramming, dodge ram 1500, hawk system

Question
What is the best alarm to buy that would cost $49.99?  The place that installed mine tried to get me to purchase a new one for $450 or troubleshoot mine now for $30.  I like having the remote door locks and the car starter, But I can do without the car starter if there is a better deal on a great system.
Thanks for your help!

I Know Hawk Alarm went out of business a few years back.  Well my remotes no longer work, I replaced the batteries and tried to reprogram them but the system does not recognize them at all.  I pulled the fusses from the brain and let them sit for a minute before putting them back and I still cannot get the system to recognize the remotes.  Since one remote is brand new, I doubt it is the remotes.  Is there a way to reprogram the Brain that my owners manual doesn't specify? What can I do?  I am an Electrical Engineer/technician in the Air Force and I don't want to pay for something I can fix.  Thanks!  I have an HS 4600 on a 98 Dodge Ram 1500

Wish I had better news for you on this save
for the fact that you may be doing the programing
wrong. Using the valet switch and the ignition you would
be able to add up to 4 remotes to the Hawk system.

But I do not know the sequence for sure.
It Might be: key on,
press valet button 5 times, then when you get the brain
to react by lights or siren, press button one
on the first transmitter
to program, then 1 on the second etc...
within 10 seconds of entering program mode.
Turn off the key when done. If this did not
solve it, then I am at a loss to explain
the programing on this obsolete piece.

By the way, I understand the reluctance to
purchase a new one, but weigh the aggrivation level
you are experiencing if this does not work, against
the 49.99 to just replace it with a newer, state
of the art system that will run rings around
the old one.

Just a thought.

You can also try www.remotesunlimited.com to see if they
will help, but they want to sell you a replacement remote
first to get the programing procedure (catch 22).

Anywho, luck to ya.
Stay safe

Answer
Well, if it were me, I would
pull the Hawk and put in the Ultrastart 430
Alarm & Keyless entry system.
Easy to work with, and if the HAWK controlled
the door locks before, this will be a sinch.
If it did not, then it's only a matter of
a couple of relays.  If you want a nice
little combo for the locks/remote start/keyless
then the Ultrastart 2250 or the Commando 560 systems
are nice, and if Paging is desired, best one out there
for the bucks is the Galaxy 5000 2 way rsw.

But as I said, it's all a matter of degrees.
Pick your poison here, but these are what I would
choose for this truck. There are other choices,
but in my experience, they work well on this
type of project.

Let me know if I can send you something decent, and
I will help you retro fit and install the new one.
