Car Stereos: Speaking cutting in/out

Question
QUESTION: I have a  2000 Cadillac DTS and I install a aftermarket amp and sub woofers to the factory head unit  and everything was working fine then all of a sudden the speakers started cutting in and out it was so low one minute then it would jump high  like I turn the volume up I not sure what to do could if be a wire or the Bose amp interfering with the aftermarket amp ? Plz tell me what to do

ANSWER: Hi Rob,

Sorry about the delay in getting to your question.

The factory audio system in the DTS is unusual because it uses a data-controlled amplifier to drive all the speakers and stock subwoofer.  This setup makes it harder to troubleshoot problems like yours.  It sounds like there's an issue with the Bose amplifier, but it may or may not be related to your after-market amplifier connection.

I have a few questions that may help me get an idea what's going on:

--Are the sound issues happening all the time, or is it an intermittent problem?
--How is your after-market amplifier connected to the stock system?  Are you using a line output converter, or the amplifier's high-level inputs?  Either way, where is the amplifier connected to the stock wiring?
--Where did you connect the after-market amplifier's remote wire?

From what I can tell, it's not unusual for the Bose amplifier to fail in these vehicles, so the problem you're having might not be related to the amp and sub installation.

Line out converter
QUESTION: Yes it happens all the time .
And yes I'm am using a line out converter I looked on YouTube and it said disconnect the factory subwoofer and run the line out converter to the factory subwoofer wires so that's what I did and I hooked my amp the regular way power to battery ground to rear  seatbelt buckle and remote wire  ran to my fuse box into the ignition fuse so I believe my amp is hooked up right so if I was to start over  could you give me step-by-step the easiest way to install

Answer
Hi,

It doesn't sound like there's anything going on with your installation that should be affecting the rest of the speakers in the system.

Is it possible to temporarily disconnect the LOC and re-connect the stock subwoofer to see if that solves the problem?

How long was the after-market system working properly before you started having problems?

At this point, I think it's most likely that the factory amp is failing, and it's more than likely not related to the after-market installation.  It's not something I've run into before, but Cadillac factory audio systems sometimes have some odd issues that you don't typically see in other types of OEM setups.
