Car Stereos: Bose speaker replacement, bose speakers, minimum hassle

Question
Hi,
Just picked up an 06 GMC Envoy for the wife. Has Bose system with 6 cd,Onstar etc. Both front door speakers blown. Cannot find anything for compatability. It's supposed to be just a woofer but anything to replace is a 2 way, plus I'm told there is an ohm issue also where sound quality is lowered. Plus I may need adaptors? Is going to dealer only option for replacement? Do they even still sell the Bose?
Don't want to replace entire system. Not audiophile person. Just need guidance for simple replacement with minimum hassle and cost to maintain sound quality. While researching it seems a lot of people are having this issue with the Bose speakers. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Answer
Hi DJ,

The short answer is if you aren't overly concerned, just buy a decent set of front speakers that are around the same size and put them in.  Your factory system is 2ohm, and any replacements you find will be 4ohm, but that's safe to install; they'll just not be able to go quite as loud, but probably still more than you'd care to listen to them anyway.

2-way speakers are OK too; if the car or amp is blocking out any frequencies through a filter or crossover, part of the speaker just might not get used; again, not a huge concern.

So in short, put in just about anything that fits and it should work just fine for your purposes.
