Car Stereos: Interference in just one speaker..., radio speakers, gmc envoy

Question
Hi... I have a 2006 GMC Envoy with the factory radio, speakers and entertainment system. I bought it just over 2 yrs ago...I have been getting interference just in the drivers side back door speaker and you only hear it when you either step on the brake or the gas pedals. Starting the car, hitting a bump or even if I make a sharp enough turn will all of a sudden create this interference. Most of the time I just turn the radio off for a bit and when I turn it on again it doesn't whine anymore. There are times I can go for days without this happening and times it happens quite a few times during one day. I'm wondering if a wire has come loose and touching something causing this or what... don't know where to begin to search...I hope this makes sense

Answer
Hi Jennifer,

You're likely on to something with the 'wiring loose and touching something.'

I'd imagine your issue is that the wire to that speaker has either frayed, or come loose and is touching things it shouldn't be.  Likely your ground wire.  This can cause the weird interference you're hearing.

You'll need to remove your rear driver's door panel to get at the speaker.  Then mess around with the wires with the music playing -- I bet you'll find what your issue is in the process.  The unfortunate part is issues like this are often a pain in the butt to locate as the issue with the wire could be anywhere from that door all the way up to the back of the deck itself.

Good luck,
Justin
