Car Stereos: 1996 gmc sierra sterio, gmc sierra, c d player

Question
I removed an after market stereo from a 1996 gmc sierra and replaced it with the original style am-fm-cassette with separate c/d player. Radio comes on and appears as if all functions are working, all buttons, illustrations and c/d player lights up too, but no sound. both plugs in the rear of stereo are connected as well as antenna, but no sound. Should ther be a factory amp? If so where?

Answer
Hi Drew,

There is no factory amp in a 96 Sierra.  If you've removed the aftermarket deck, I would suggest that maybe the person that installed the aftermarket deck installed something else somewhere that's messing with your sound.  Perhaps they've cut the speaker wires and wired them into another harness?

Or had an amplifier installed in the truck and never put back the factory wiring?
