Car Stereos: vr3 vrvd630 hissing, hi aaron, electrical connections

Question
I have just bought this used and there is a hissing that plays through the speakers at any volume or when the volume is all the way down. The only time it does not do it is when it is off or on mute. I have disconnected the speakers one by one to se if it goes away but it doesn't. All wires appear to be connected correctly.  Also the hook up for the antenna is unusual and will not fit. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Aaron,

Hissing out of the speakers on any stereo system is typically a result of 'ground looping'  This happens when the path to ground is not clean.

The first thing to do is check your electrical connections.  Make sure they're all clean (preferably soldered), and solid.

From there, work back.  Maybe you need to strengthen the ground wire by providing it a better grounding point.

If those don't fix it, you might have some bad circuitry in the deck itself.
