Car Stereos: Ipod connecting cable, nissan maxima, nissan dealer

Have just purchased a 2009 Nissan Maxima with bose system. In front seat compartment between seats there is a hook up place for an Ipod but the cable was not with the car and the male opening is much larger than the standard cable male for Ipod hook up. Is there a special cable or can an adapter cable be purchased plugged into that with a standard female port to plug in a regular ipod connecting cable?

Sorry about the delay in answering your question.  I'm not familiar with the stock system in the Maxima, but a bit of searching found this cable:

Hopefully that's what you're looking for.  If not, your best resource would probably be a Nissan dealer's parts department.
