Question
id like to install 6"x9" speakers in the rear of my 1986 chevy montecarlo but it suppose to take a 5"x7" speaker,  where can i purchase an adapter for this vehicle to convert it from 5"x7" to 6"x9" speaker? Ive purchased them years ago but cant find them anyhweres now!

Answer
Hi Bridgitte,

The stock speaker in your Monte Carlo is a 4"x10", not a 5"x7", which explains why you're having trouble finding an adapter.  As far as I know there's no adapter for installing a 6"x9" speaker into a 5"x7" opening.  You can still find the adapters for using larger speakers in a 4"x10" spot, however, though you'll probably have to purchase online.  It's been a long time since any manufacturer used this speaker size on a rear deck, so most car audio stores don't keep the adapters (or the speakers) on hand.

Search online for a Metra 82-4000, Scosche 41069, or American International SA41069GM adapter.  While these adapters used to be commonly used, due to the large number of GM vehicles with 4"x10" speakers in the rear, I've never personally used them.  That means I can't really tell you which brand of adapter works best.  If you look at some images online, one or more of them should look familiar.

Hope this helps!
